Quakers Win NCAC Contest at Home;
Status for Conference Tournament Still Unknown

For Immediate Release:
Oct. 26, 2007

RICHMOND, Ind. — Now it is time to wait.

The Earlham College volleyball team took care of business on Friday with a 30-22, 25-30, 30-22, 30-24 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University in a North Coast Athletic Conference match on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

Earlham is now 12-15 overall with a 6-8 mark in the conference. The Quakers are alone in fourth place in the standings thanks to a Wittenberg University victory over Denison University (11-13, 5-8) on Friday. “It keeps our hopes of making the conference tournament alive,” Earlham Head Coach Natalie Alred said. “We controlled what we could by beating Ohio Wesleyan and our players handled the pressure really well.”

Saturday’s College of Wooster at Denison match will determine if the Quakers finish in the top four of the NCAC standings and qualify for the conference tournament.

If Wooster wins, the Quakers are in the tournament and the No. 4 seed. Earlham would play No. 1 seed and top-ranked Wittenberg in Springfield, Ohio on Friday, Nov. 2. A victory by Dension puts the Big Red in at the No. 4 seed because of a tiebreaker edge over the Quakers.

Against Ohio Wesleyan, senior Lisa Vanderkolk (Bluffton, IN/Bluffton) led the Quakers with 22 kills, while contributing 22 digs. Senior Jessica Whitaker (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) added 17 kills and 18 digs. Sophomore Keeley McAnnis-Entenman (Portland, OR/Grant) had 12 kills and three blocks. “It was a total team effort,” Alred said. “Jessica was very consistent with her hitting and Lisa and Keeley stepped up as well.”

Senior Amanda Prewitt (Greenwood, IN/Greenwood) led the Quakers with 52 assists, while adding 17 digs. Senior Kaitlin Gentry (Kent, OH/Roosevelt) led the way with 242 digs. Senior Kari Schneider (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) had 19 digs.

Earlham entertains Bluffton University on Saturday afternoon as the Quakers celebrate Senior Day. The non-conference contest begins at 1 p.m. Box score.
