OSHKOSH, Wis. — Earlham College senior Sara Bohall turned in a historic performance on Saturday as she became the first Quaker to earn National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-American honors in women's track.
Bohall (Westport, IN/Columbus East) set an Earlham record in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 61.35 seconds to finish fourth at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
“This was a great day for Earlham track,” Head Coach Nick Johnson said. “For us to have two All-Americans in one year is phenomenal. Our student-athletes performed at a tremendous level.”
On Thursday, sophomore Chris Shaw (Anderson, IN/Pendleton Heights) placed fifth in the discus with a 164’9” toss. The top-eight finishers in an event earn a place on the All-America Team.
Bohall improved on her effort of 61.77 seconds during Thursday’s preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles, which was the sixth-fastest time. “For someone to run faster in the finals of the national meet is very difficult,” Earlham Assistant Coach Pat Thomas said. “Sara was great. It was technically one of the best races of her career. She hit every hurdle right in stride.”
Bohall and Shaw join Walker Yane as NCAA Division III All-Americans. Yane was the first to attain the honor for the men's track team with an eighth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2007.• Men's Discus results
