El Rodeo to Sponsor Soccer Tournament

For Immediate Release:
August 13, 2007

RICHMOND, Ind. — When the Earlham College soccer teams open the season this fall, local restaurant El Rodeo will serve as the sponsor the third annual Raven/Quaker Classic.

Earlham Head Men’s Soccer Coach Roy Messer welcomed El Rodeo's support of the tournament on Monday. “This allows both our teams to open up with home games and get new students out to see us play,” Messer said.

“El Rodeo is heavily involved with soccer locally, sponsoring teams in local leagues and serving as a meeting place for local soccer people,” Messer added. “Some of our players even play for El Rodeo teams in the spring and summer.”

The El Rodeo Raven/Quaker Classic begins on Friday, Aug. 31. The Earlham women’s soccer team plays Capital University on Matlack Field at 3 p.m. The men’s contest against the Crusaders is at 5 p.m.

Earlham squares off against Spalding University on Saturday, Sept. 1. The women’s match starts at 1 p.m. The men’s contest is at 3 p.m. Anderson University entertains the same teams on opposite days.

Later the following week, Anderson and Earlham meet in Richmond. The Quakers entertain the Ravens in men’s action on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 3 p.m. The women’s match is scheduled that same day at 5 p.m.

El Rodeo has two restaurants in Richmond located at 2404 National Road West and 3567 East Main St. Admission for the El Rodeo Raven/Quaker Classic is free.
