You know that internships are critical to give your advisees real-life experience in their field. But they don't have to wait until the junior year to get that internship. Check out our internship planning timeline to show your advisees what steps they should take, beginning their freshman year.
We help students become occupationally literate: working with students on self-assessments, exploring skills, offering resources and makinng connection. We help students address the problem of "I don't know what I want to do."
We offer ways to expose students to the world of work (and research): helping students talk with mentors through the Earlham Career Network, set up job shadowing experiences and internships, and apply for research experiences.
The BCSV has services to help students with professional communication, including advice for writing resumes and personal statements, requesting a recommendation, contacting employers, and conducting phone and in-person interviews.
Encourage your advisees to attend programs and training through the BCSV. We continue to have new offerings and programs. And if you have suggestions for what you would like to see offered for your students through internships, job shadowing, research, and opportunities to meet with alumni please contact Sonia Smith, Internship Coordinator.
You can also bring a representative of the Bonner Center into your classroom or host a career development session focused on your department. In the past we've talked with the Psychology Club, gone into a classroom for a brief introduction, had lunch with the Division of Natural Sciences, and we look forward to planning an event with you. Contact us to schedule something!
Current Earlham students appreciate the contact they are able to have with Earlham Alumni. They like being able to ask questions and hear their stories.
Who are Earlham alumni you think would be helpful for current students to hear on a panel, mingle with at a networking event, job shadow, intern with, or even just e-mail about their career questions?
Which of your former students are excelling in your field? Can we contact them to see if they would like an intern or could serve as a student-alumni mentor?
