Student Alumni Mentoring (SAM) Program Externships

SAM is a wonderful opportunity to get introductory experience with a job about which you want to know more. You will have one-on-one time with an Earlham graduate who is working in a field of interest to you. You will live with them and go with them to work every day.

SAM is a two-week externship program designed primarily for first- and second-year students to have the opportunity to job shadow an Earlham Alum in either May or June. You will be hosted in a homestay by your Earlham Alum. And as a part of your experience you will have the opportunity to work on a project at your work site, experience the work and atmosphere, and most importantly engage in conversation with your mentor while commuting to work together and in life at home.

Through SAM you will:

  • Increase your professional and personal skills and experience.
  • Be involved in action and reflection while setting learning goals for yourself.
  • Meet people in a field of interest to you (networking) and gain a mentor.

To Apply to SAM:

  1. Fill out an application form available online or through the Bonner Center office by February 6, 2009.
  2. Check out opportunities available folder in the Bonner Center and pick three externships for which to apply.
  3. Make an appointment to review your cover letters and resume with the Bonner Center before February 18, 2009.
  4. Submit applications for your three choices of externships by February 18, 2009.

Selections will be made and announced on March 9, 2009.

Deadline for Student Acceptance letters with the signed Participant Agreement Form will be by February 20, 2009.
