This award
was established by Lucy Moore Grave '02, and is to be given to
a junior or senior for the study of marine biology. Recipients
are selected by the convener of the biology department with approval
of the financial aid committee.
This award
was established by Lucy Moore Grave '02 in memory of her husband's
parents. It is given to students who are academically able and
who exhibit devotion to the advancement of science, stability
of character, and originality. These awards are to be used for
a year of graduate study in zoology, biology, geology, or chemistry.
Nominations are submitted each year by the members of the biology,
chemistry and geology departments to the graduate fellowship committee.
Students are selected by the graduate fellowship committee.
This award
was established by Russell M. Lawall '25. It is given to a student
selected by the Health Services Program Committee to recognize
and encourage original study or research by a student or collaborative
research done together by the student and faculty.
This award
was established by Dr. and Mrs. Russell L. Malcolm, prominent
Richmond physician and former trustee, and continued by Dr. Russell
L. Malcolm, Jr. '51, a pathologist in Middletown, Ohio. It is
given to premedical students who exhibit excellence in science
and general scholarship and who have the character and mental
attitude which indicate promise of success as physicians. He or
she should also have interest in cocurricular activities. Students
are selected by faculty premedical advisors.
This award
was established in memory of Millard S. Markle '10, professor
of biology from 1910-1950. Millard S. Markle was known for his
meticulously organized lab courses, warm humane instruction and
his own brand of unexpected humor. It is given to a junior or
senior student who has done outstanding work in biology and whose
interests and educational plans may be furthered by financial
assistance for some special program or project in field biology.
Students are selected by the faculty of the biology department.
