Plan of Study

General Education Requirements

The Program offers two courses that fulfill General Education Requirements: one course that meets the Quantitative Reasoning component of the Analytical Reasoning Requirement, MGMT 120, and one course that meet the Domestic component of the Perspectives in Diversity Requirement, MGMT 343.

The Major

Students are encouraged to begin the Major during the second year. This provides flexibility in the student’s schedule to participate in an off-campus program and to complete a variety of electives.

Students majoring in Business and Nonprofit Management must complete these core courses:

  • ECON 101 Introduction to Macroeconomics OR
    ECON 103 Introduction to Microeconomics

  • MGMT 100 Introduction to Organizations

  • MGMT 120 Elementary Statistics OR
    MGMT 345 Statistics for the Social Sciences

  • MGMT 200 Financial and Managerial Accounting

  • MGMT 334 Strategic Planning and Marketing

  • MGMT 343 Conflict Resolution

  • MGMT 488 Senior Capstone Experience

  • One upper-level public policy or nonprofit-related course

  • A minimum of three additional upper-level Social Science courses (nine credits) chosen in accordance with the student's academic interests and future plans as approved by the program faculty.

  • An internship on an off-campus program, during the summer or the academic year. Academic credit is obtained by taking MGMT 381 Field Experience Seminar if the internship is not part of a structured off-campus program.

The Minor

Earlham graduates, whatever their majors, frequently pursue careers that move them into management positions. By taking Business and Nonprofit Management as a minor, students in any major can develop an understanding of how to work and lead within an organization.

Students minoring in Business and Nonprofit Management must complete these courses:

  • MGMT 100 Introduction to Organizations

  • MGMT 200 Financial and Managerial Accounting

  • MGMT 334 Strategic Planning and Marketing

  • MGMT 343 Conflict Resolution

  • One additional upper-level MGMT course.
