Bonner Scholar Program

Earlham College

Bonner Resources:

Welcome

This site is dedicated to making Bonner resources accessible, and informing the general public about the Bonner program at Earlham.

Part of Earlham College’s mission is to “awaken the teacher within so that our students will become life-long learners” and to “educate morally sensitive leaders for future generations.” We at Earlham believe that student development goes hand in hand with community problem-solving. We also believe that the combination of academic study and community service and the accompanying opportunity to learn from both theory and practice provides profound learning for life.

The Bonner Scholars Program is a four-year developmental leadership program that is rooted in community service. Supported by the Bonner Foundation in Princeton, NJ, the Bonner Scholarship provides tuition and summer support for fifteen Earlham students per class year who demonstrate a commitment to community service.

Becoming a Bonner:

The Bonner Scholars Program is designed for students with high financial need who have a passion for community service. All applicants to the Earlham College Bonner scholars Program must have applied for admission to Earlham College prior to submitting an application for the Bonner scholars Program. Applicants must have an estimated family contribution (EFC) on the FAFSA of $9,500 or less in order to be considered. International students who have applied for admission to Earlham College are invited to apply for the Bonner Scholars Program. Their financial need will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Anyone wishing to apply for the program must submit a completed application form and one letter of recommendation no later than March 15. Electronic copies of both forms may be downloaded. All applicants will be notified whether or not they have been accepted into the program in early April.

If a first or second year Bonner Scholar leaves the program, a replacement will be sought from among eligible Earlham students in the same class year.   Replacement Bonners must have an EFC of $9,500 or less and must submit an application and one recommendation. All eligible students will be notified if an opening becomes available in the program and be given an opportunity to apply.   Students should not submit application materials unless they have been notified that a search is taking place for a replacement Bonner and that they are eligible to apply. Bonner Scholars who leave the program during their junior or senior year are not eligible to be replaced.
