Micah Sommer '11The Palladium-Item, Richmond, Indiana
As a general reporting intern, Micah covered everything from dog shows to factory closings. He began studying journalism after reaching this conclusion: “‘I really like writing, and I really like telling stories, but I’m really bad at making stories up. Journalism is all about finding stories that already exist and writing them. That would be cool.”
With that in mind, Micah followed his passion to an internship at The Palladium-Item, Richmond’s local newspaper. There, as a general reporting intern, he covered everything from dog shows to factory closings.
“I’ve had the opportunity here to really experience what it’s like to work in a newsroom, not just as a tiny little intern who’s doing all the tiny little intern things,” Micah says. “I’m actually writing stories and having them published, and that’s not an experience I would necessarily have at a larger organization.”
