Academic Electives and Opportunities

May Term

Following the Spring Semester, some Earlham faculty offer a small array of May Term intensive courses. These courses are sometimes experimental in nature, rather than intensive versions of regularly offered courses. May Term experiences represent all parts of the curriculum: field biology, fine arts, language study, culture studies, politics and more. Several May Term courses each year are held off campus or include an off-campus component. Recent off-campus May Term sites have included Bahamas and St. John, Virgin Islands (marine biology), Curaçao (Creole language and culture), Galapagos Islands or Belize (tropical biology), Greece (classical studies), Menorca (cultural ecology), Mexico (intensive Spanish) and Senegal (language, religion and art).

May Term is not required, and students can fulfill all their graduation requirements without taking a May Term course. However, these mini-courses are increasing in popularity.
