Guidelines for Academic Advisory Committee Actions and
Financial Aid Eligibility
Academic Standards for Scholarship Recipients
Students who are awarded Presidential Honors Scholarships, C.B. Edwards Scholarships, Cunningham Scholarships, Bolling Scholarships, National Merit Scholarships (funded by Earlham College) or any other Earlham-funded merit scholarship must have a 2.00 cumulative GPA at the end of their fourth semester to have the award renewed. Cumulative GPAs of scholarship recipients are reviewed at the conclusion of each academic year to ensure that the requirements are being met.
Effective for students matriculating during the
Fall Semester 2006 and later, students who are awarded Presidential
Honors Scholarships must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA at the end
of their fourth semester to have the award renewed.
Students who do not meet these minimum expectations may continue to receive aid for a one-semester probationary period, during which they must correct the deficiency in order to continue receiving financial assistance. Exceptions to these guidelines may be made by the Advisory Committee in light of mitigating circumstances.
Time Frames for Receiving Aid
Due to limited resources, financial aid from Earlham is available for only eight semesters, though students in their 9th and 10th semesters may still be considered to be making satisfactory progress for federal aid eligibility. Exceptions to the limits of Earlham assistance are made by the Financial Aid Committee.
The maximum time-frame during which a student may receive
Federal Title IV Student Aid at Earlham College is the least
of the following: (1) a student's completion of all graduation requirements
including a major, general education requirements, and 122
semester hours (120 academic), OR (2) the completion of 10 semesters
or the equivalent of 10 semesters of full-time academic work including
time spent at other colleges or universities, OR (3) the completion
of 150 semester hours including those completed at other colleges or
universities. |
