The Minor

The Education Minor is intended to give students a balance of theory and practice while preparing future teachers to think critically on matters of schooling, teaching and education broadly constructed. Students interested in careers in education should take EDUC 120 Foundations of Education early in their Earlham careers. In addition, students thinking about teaching in public schools need to consider their major carefully because some disciplines and majors are not accepted by "4+1" graduate programs designed toward certification.

Requirements for the Education Minor are:

  • EDUC 120 Foundations of Education

  • EDUC 248 Theory and Practice of Education

  • EDUC 353 Philosophy of Education OR
    EDUC 373 Moral Education

  • PSYC 338 Human Development

and one additional course from the following list:

  • EDUC 238 Methods of Peacemaking

  • EDUC 241 Instructional Media and Technology

  • EDUC 344 Studies in Languages Learning and Teaching Program

  • EDUC 353 Philosophy of Education

  • EDUC 359 History of Education

  • EDUC 371 Sociology of Education

  • EDUC 373 Moral Education

  • EDUC 485 Independent Study
