Information Services
Introduction
Information Services is the umbrella under which
four units of service to the community operate: Libraries, Computing
Services, Instructional Technology and Media, and Web Management
and Services. As a group the units of Information Services provide
access to information resources (books, periodicals, online databases,
media, etc.) and technology (computers, projectors, media equipment,
Internet) and support the use of these resources through personal
assistance and instruction. Historically libraries, computing services
and media services were separate because they each dealt with different
technologies. The rise of digital technologies has created an environment
in which collaboration among these once separate units became essential.
Therefore Information Services' role is to coordinate the various
services to avoid duplication, develop mutual support and present
users with more coherent services. |
