MGMT 100 INTRODUCTION TO
ORGANIZATIONS
(3 credits)
Entry point for the major. In what type of organization do you want to work for your internship or college? How does one read an organization? What are the differences among a business, a government agency and a nonprofit organization? Investigates organizations from a number of levels: interpersonal interaction, group interaction both within and between organizations, and organizations within their socio/political/economic context.

STATISTICS

Topics include exploratory data analysis; measures of central tendency, dispersion and correlation; non-parametric methods; confidence intervals; hypothesis tests; and the design of statistical studies. Also listed as MATH 120. (A-QR)

MGMT 200 FINANCIAL AND MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING (4 credits)
An introduction to the construction and interpretation of financial statements, valuation of assets, financial ratios analysis, and the construction and use of budgets for decision making. Prerequisite: MGMT 100 or consent of the instructor.

MGMT 321 NONPROFITS IN CIVIL SOCIETY (3 credits)
Focus alternates between U.S.-based nonprofits and international nongovernmental organizations. Explores governance, strategy and resource acquisition in theory and practice. Provides service learning experience in grant writing and identification of appropriate funding sources. Prerequisite: MGMT 100 or consent of the instructor. (AY)

MGMT 322 HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT (3 credits)
Stresses how the human resource management function and its contemporary activities contribute to organizational effectiveness and the achievement of strategic organizational objectives. Reconsiders and explores management practices from both employer and employee perspectives. Prerequisite: MGMT 100 or consent of the instructor. (AY)

MGMT 334 STRATEGIC PLANNING AND MARKETING (4 credits)
Using case studies of businesses and not-for-profits, examines the broadest and most fundamental questions confronting organizations. Examines principles of internal organization, criteria for selecting among alternative options and the relationship of the organization to its external environment. Explores pricing and promotion of products and services, along with broader social, legal and ethical implications of the organization's activities. Prerequisite: MGMT 100 and 200 or consent of the instructor. (AY)

*MGMT 342 LEADERSHIP IN DEALING WITH DIFFERENCES (4 credits)
Develops an understanding of skills in engaging differences in diverse groups. Discussion of theories, analyses of current practice, experiential exercises and graduate-level case studies. Explores individual and organizational actions to develop policies, processes and leadership styles for developing multicultural organizations. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing or above, or consent of the instructor. (D-D) (AY)

*MGMT 343 CONFLICT RESOLUTION (3 credits)
Examines the problem of conflict in social theory and practice. Readings introduce types of alternative dispute resolution. Students practice mediation and negotiation skills through simulated conflicts. Race, class and gender perspectives are presented in class activities, readings and films. Also listed as PAGS 343. MGMT 349 COMPARATIVE PUBLIC MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION
(3 credits)
Explores the context and scope of public organizations and management in the U.S. and in other countries. Examines the relationship of public agencies to non-profits and for-profits, including a specific focus on contracting out the delivery of goods and services and the broader political context in which public agencies operate. Prerequisite: MGMT 100 or consent of the instructor. (AY)

MGMT 381 FIELD EXPERIENCE SEMINAR (3 credits)
Integrates issues from field experiences with research in social sciences, readings and cases in career development and ethics in preparation for future work settings. Prerequisites: MGMT 100 and 200, completed internship or consent of the instructor.
