Medieval Studies

About the Program

Medieval Studies invites students to a multidisciplinary consideration of medieval cultures and economies. Although the term "medieval" derives from a term of abuse for the allegedly inelegant Latin of a middle period dividing Classical Antiquity from the Renaissance, in an expanded sense it refers to the Christian, Jewish and Moslem successor civilization to the relatively unified ancient Mediterranean Basin. It is in that sense that we use the term here.

Medieval Studies invites students to consider and compare through several disciplines and to find additional courses to complement the core courses listed below. This is a program for students who wish to build upon an initial interest and who are ready to be intentional in choosing electives.
