Museum Studies

The Minor

Students choosing a Minor in Museum Studies must complete these courses, which provide a foundation in Museum Studies, Psychology and Management:

  • MUSE 224 Introduction to Museum Studies

  • Three courses from the following:

    • MGMT 100 Introduction to Organizations

    • MGMT 321 Nonprofits in Civil Society

    • MGMT 343 Conflict Resolution (also listed as PAGS 343)

    • MGMT 349 Comparative Public Management and Organization

    • PSYC 238 Human Development

  • Internship: Between three to eight credits. In accordance with College guidelines, a minimum of 130 working hours is required to earn three credits. The internship can be taken any time but preferably after MUSE 224. Museum professionals emphasize that this experience is crucial for exploring and deciding whether to pursue museum work. Internships should focus on one or more of the five functions of a museum: collections, conservation, research, interpretation and/or education. Ideally, the internship is spent at a museum accredited by the American Association of Museums. Proposals for internships are reviewed by the Museum Studies Committee.
