Summer Programs and Courses

SUMMER WRITING INTENSIVE (SWI) (3 credits)
A three-week intensive course that includes curricular and cocurricular activities. SWI emphasizes reading and writing at the level of a first-year Earlham course, with a focus on enhancing critical thinking and discussion skills. During the week students attend classes, work in group tutorials and meet individually with their professor and tutor. Weekend activities introduce students to the greater Richmond area and provide fun and relaxation.

EXPLORE-A-COLLEGE (2 credits)
A two-week academic course designed for high school students with the rigor of an introductory college-level course. Courses are taught by Earlham faculty from a range of disciplines and interdisciplinary programs. Please visit the Explore-A-College Web site for specific course offerings and descriptions.

SUMMER WILDERNESS (3 credits)
Summer Wilderness is an outdoor pre-orientation program that combines active, physical challenge with study, observation and personal reflection. Course work in the history, geology and ecology of the area is combined with facilitated discussions on such topics as leadership, decisionmaking, communication and conflict resolution. Readings, journal writing, skills assessments and essay assignments provide the basis for academic credit. For more information, visit the Wilderness Programs Web site.
