The list below represents the common software that is being installed on the public lab systems.

Public Computing Labs

Lilly Library 24 Hour Computing Labs

Lilly Library now has two different labs that are available for 24 hour access. One is located in the basement of Lilly Library, accessible using a card-swipe access from the south side of the library. This lab contains Dell PCs and Apple iMacs and is set up in the traditional lab format. The other lab is located off of the main entrance of the library and is designed to be a multiple use facility, such as a computer aided study room, group project collaboration space, and student presentation practice space. It is accessible via a card-swipe inside the main entrance of the library.

Lilly Library Reference Lab

This lab is located on the main floor of the Lilly Library near the reference area. Its primary use is for conducting research of in house Library resources, internet resources, and a large collection of Electronic Databases and Journals. It is also used by Reference Librarians for training students in the use of available resources.

Bolling Center Computing Lab

Located on the first floor of the new Bolling Social Sciences Center, this lab contains Dell PCs and is one of three teaching labs available for use by faculty. It is open to all students as a public computing lab when not in use for teaching.

Wildman Library Computing Lab

Located in the basement of the Wildman Science Library, this lab contains Dell PCs, and is one of three teaching labs available for use by faculty. It is open to all students as a public computing lab when not in use for teaching.

Dennis Hall Computing Lab

Located in room 224 of Dennis Hall, this lab consists of Apple iMacs and is geared towards the Math, Physics, and Computer Science programs for use as a teaching lab. It is open to all students as a public computing lab when not in use for teaching.

Plowshares Media Arts Lab/Instructional Technology and Media

The Lab is located in the basement of Lilly Library in the Instructional Technology and Media Department. It consists of 10 computers, five PC and five Macintosh, each able to handle several media needs. These computers are to be used to do media related work, no word processing software exists on these machines. Students, Faculty, and Staff can use these machines to edit videos, edit audio projects, create photo projects, scan photos or slides, as well as create web pages. Special Equipment

  • Floppy drives- Floppy drives are available upon request. Ask the student worker in the lab.
  • Scanners- Each lab hosts a single scanner. Learn more about scanners.
  • Headphones- Although all of the computers feature headphone jacks, headphones are not provided. Please bring your own to use sound.
  • Zip Drives- Zip drives are built into most of the PCs and available upon request for Macs. Ask the student worker in the lab.
  • Printers- Laser printing is available in all labs. Color printing is available through Instructional Technology and Media in the basement of Lilly Library. If you need help with a printer, ask a student worker or call extension 2000.
  • Photoshop/Video Editing/etc.- For more artistic needs, check the offerings of Instructional Technology and Media.

Departmental Computing Labs

These are labs that are program or discipline specific and often are running software packages that are unique to the given discipline. They range anywhere from 3 computers up to 18 computers and in most cases are limited to use by students who are majors of the program or are enrolled in a class of the program. The following departmental labs are available:
