E-mail and Network Quota Usage
Allocation
All Earlham users are given 35MB of disk space for e-mail and 150 MB for their HOME directory (Network File Storage). As the amount of space given to each student is relatively small, students should use their Earlham e-mail for classwork and other, higher-capacity free e-mail accounts such as Yahoo! or Gmail for pictures and large files.
Why do I keep going over quota?
The most common reason for going over quota is large attachments. It is not the quantity of e-mail you receive, but instead the size of the messages (which is affected by attachments) that is the determining factor in going over quota.
Can't Delete Messages / Over Quota
If you are too close to (about 90%) or over quota, you will not be able to delete messages. To temporarily increase your quota, go to the quota management page. Log in. Click "Request Quota Increase" on the left. Select E-MAIL as the server. Request 50MB of additional space. For the reason, type "over quota." Check "automatically release on mm/dd/yyyy" and enter a date two weeks hence. If you do not set the quota increase to automatically release, and you overflow your quota again, you may find that you are unable to increase your quota further and will require special assistance from the Help Desk. Now, click submit. Your quota will be increased in about ten minutes. After that, log into Webmail and you will once again be able to delete messages.
What is the limit on quota increases?
You can increase your quota twice in increments of 50MB maximum each time.
Can I increase the space on my HOMES drive too?
Yes. Follow the same steps as with e-mail, but choose HOMES instead of EMAIL as the server.
