Emergency Preparedness — Everyone Has a Part
In an emergency* you will be
asked to "evacuate or "shelter within."
Evacuate means:
Leave your building or area to a location
a minimum of 1,000 feet away and remain in that location until you have
been accounted for by Campus Safety and Security.
Shelter within means:
Move to an area of your building with
no windows or glass and wait for an "all clear" from Campus Safety
and Security.
Types of Emergencies
- Fire
- Tornado
- Chemical Spill
- Gas Leak
- Violent Person
How Should You Respond?
Evacuate
Fire
Leave the building, closing doors behind you if you are able to do so safely.
Chemical Spill
Leave the area, moving upwind from the spill
area.
Gas Leak
Leave the area to a minimum distance of 1,000 feet away from the leak area.
Shelter Within
Tornado
Move to an interior hallway with no glass. More Information about tornado safety...
Violent Person
Move to a room you can lock from the inside, if you are able to do so safely.
*An emergency is an event requiring immediate personal action to preserve life safety.
