for the 2008-09 Artist and Lecture Series and Convocation Lecture Series

Earlham Artist and Lecture Series

The Earlham Artist and Lecture Series is to present not only to the Earlham community, but to the wider Whitewater Valley community as well a Series consisting of leading artists and scholars of our time. The series is to be open to the public with the intent of being available to the broadest possible audience. The price of the admission for these programs is to be underwritten in part by the College's operating budget and a modest endowment, which also helps to fund the educational outreach programs, associated with the Artist Series.

Earlham Convocation Lecture Series

The purpose of All-College Convocations is to provide a forum for community-wide intellectual discourse upon topics of interest or concern. Convocations are therefore vehicles to provide a series of intellectual and cultural experiences that can be shared widely by the entire community.

Issues will be examined from a variety of perspectives. Convocation speakers should be selected to represent a broad diversity, reflecting political, social, and cultural viewpoints that challenge and/or engage the community.  Convocation speakers are selected for their intellectual distinction and proven speaking ability.  Speakers will be expected to entertain questions following their presentations and will, time permitting, be invited to participate in dialogue with community members in related settings.
