is available for Geosciences student classroom and research use.
In its teaching mission the Department owns and uses:
- over 12,000 rock, mineral and fossil specimens
- maps of nearly every type
- petrographic and incident light binocular microscopes
- digital and light cameras
- other laboratory and field equipment
- outstanding library holdings
- a new geochemistry laboratory
- X-ray diffraction system
- X-ray spectroscopy system
- GPS field instruments
Computer instrumentation has become a vital part of modern Geosciences, and the Department is well-equipped with Internet-connected hardware, including a large scale plotter and software. GIS has become a part of some upper-level courses.
