Outcomes

These brief biographies demonstrate how Earlham graduates turn their German studies into rewarding professions.

Courtney Adams '98 lives in Vienna, Austria and works at Ward Howell Euroselect Personalberatung Ltd. There she is a researcher for Executive Search Projects in Central and Eastern Europe and executive assistant to the CEO/CFO of the company's holdings.

David Blythe '81 worked in the International Department of American Field Service (AFS) and at the Institute of International Education where he worked with the Fulbright Program. Currently, David serves as manager of program policy and support at AFS. He is very involved in AFS’ global risk management efforts and working with its offices around the world to provide quality support to participants.

Dan Conrad '86 studied English as a Second Language in graduate school. After many overseas assignments, he now works for Education Testing Service as manager of a teacher testing program where he evaluates test questions and communicates with members of test development commitees.

Karl Lehman '86 completed an MBA in International Business after a Congressional Scholarship enabled him to study and work in Germany. He has worked as assistant director of marketing at DFW International Airport and with Lufthansa as Regional Sales Manager for South Central USA.

Tina Limbird '98 worked as a research assistant in clinical psychopathology in Albany, New York. She completed an M.A. in Psychology at the University of Braunschweig in Germany. Recently she received a scholarship from the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin and is currently conducting her doctoral research on Turkish children in the Berlin school system.

Erika Schlaak '94 completed graduate studies in German at the University of Illinois, where she received several awards for teaching excellence. Erika now teaches high school German. She has returned to Germany and Austria many times since leaving Earlham, taking part in seminars or leading student groups.

Helga Thorson '87 completed a Ph.D. in German at the University of Minnesota and is now an assistant professor at the University of Arkansas. Recognized for her work as a teacher and scholar, she is extremely active in many professional organizations.
