Food Service Information

Sodexo, Earlham's food service provider, offers a variety of menu options to meet your nutritional and snacking needs.

Earlham students are required to be on one of the College's five Meal Plans to establish a financial base for this service and to reinforce the College's residential community. You can choose a 10-, 14- or 19-meal plan, as well as the Quaker 90 or 150 block meal plan.

Exceptions to this are off-campus exempt students and students living in campus houses. These students are not required to be on a meal plan but they do have the option of purchasing the EC Community Meal Plan (20 or 40 meals) that can be used in the dining hall for any meals. Any meals not eaten during the semester are forfeited at the end of the semester. Meal plans are non-transferable. A student may not share one meal plan with another student. If a student is on the Quaker 150, Quaker 90 or an EC Community plan, he/she may purchase a meal for another student, using meals included in his/her meal plan; but the owner of the meal plan must be present to do so.

Quaker 90 and Quaker 150 Meal Plans

You may eat 90 or 150 meals of your choice during the semester; you can even treat a friend to a meal as long as you are present. Any remaining meals left at the end of the semester are forfeited. The Quaker 90 includes $175 worth of plan points (debit dollars) for use in the Coffee Shop, Jazzman's or the Dining Hall. The Quaker 150 includes $125 worth of plan points.

First-year students are required to be on the 19-meal plan their first semester but may change to a 14-meal plan or the Quaker 90 or 150 meal plan for second semester. Meal plans must be selected during the Housing Lottery each spring and can be changed only during the first week of the semester by contacting Sodexo.

Dining Services offers a great variety of foods and unlimited portions for student dining during a single meal period.

Students on the go may take advantage of the To Go Program. Authorized take-out containers may be obtained in the Dining Services Office. Students must choose to dine in or take out; only one option is available per student visit. No food may be removed from dining services unless the To Go Program policy is followed for authorized take-out.

The Coffee Shop in Runyan Center serves a variety of meals and snacks with a classic selection of fast food and healthy options. Jazzman's in the Coffee Shop offers flavored coffees, lattes, hot chocolate or smoothies. Students on the meal plan may eat in the Coffee Shop Monday through Friday when Earlham Dining Hall is closed. Students may choose from a pre-selected menu in place of the traditional meal served in the Dining Hall.

Students must use their ID cards to "sign in" at each meal. A meal week begins Sunday and ends Saturday. Only one meal can be deducted from an ID card per meal period, unless the student is on the Quaker 90, 150 or one of the EC Community Meal plans. Meals are not transferable; only the owner of the meal plan may use the meals provided on the plan.

Quaker Points (flexible meal dollars) for use in the Coffee Shop and Dining Hall can be added to a student's card. A specified amount of Quaker Points are automatically added to if the student is on one of the meal plans.

Meal Exemptions: If a student has a serious medical condition and needs a medical exemption from food service, please contact the Associate Vice President for Business Operations, x1628, who will consider each request separately. The criteria and process to receive a medical meal exemption are explained in the Medical Meal Exemptions section of Residence Life Policies.
