In the United States, college students are one of the lowest voting groups, but Earlham students do not fit this generalization. Through our commitment expressed in the College's Mission Statement that declares our "concern for the world in which we live and for improving human society," community members work hard to ensure that we have a much higher voting turnout than other institutions.
Each fall campus political organizations conduct a drive on campus, encouraging students to participate in local and national elections. Since many Earlham students come from states other than Indiana, most students are considered absentee voters. It is important to get the registration process started early. Each state has a different deadline for absentee ballots, so absentee voters should allow a couple months to make sure that your vote counts.
A sampling of absentee ballots from many states is made available on campus. For more information, absentee voters should check out the Secretary of State's Web site for the states in which they are permanent residents.
