Welcome from the
Earlham Student Government

Welcome to the new, improved, and revised Student Handbook! This handbook appears in final form as a result of countless suggestions and ideas aimed at making it the most useful tool possible. We hope you can take advantage of the resources in this handbook because they are meant to save you time — either by providing space to organize your academic life, saving you a trip to the phone book, or giving you a glimpse of important EC offices and policies.

Like many things at Earlham, this handbook is a tool that can make your life easier if you choose to use it, but the information it contains can be found in several other places — Student Development, the President's Office, or the Earlham Web site. Since it's all in one place (your hand), we encourage you to take a second and familiarize yourself with the 2007-08 handbook. In the front, our Principles and Practices document articulates the values undergirding our life together. You might also take some time to read the policies and procedures that will undoubtedly inform your experience at Earlham. Talk to those around you about the values and policies that strike a chord for you. Offer feedback to Student Development about ways the handbook can be improved.

We hope this handbook will act as a springboard to engaging life at Earlham, for our College offers countless opportunities for broadening our horizons as lifelong students. Gain new perspectives through the breadth of artists and lectures offered throughout the year. Get out and holler at a sporting event or two. Dance, sing and play in one of Earlham's wonderful organizations, choirs or recreational and varsity sports. Join a college committee or run for an elected position in student government.

Amidst all of the (non-academic) fun and enlightening opportunities at Earlham, though, remember, "At Earlham College, we get our knowledge. We're slingin' the ink and pushin' pens along." All that blank space in the middle of the handbook is GREAT for getting your class load organized.

Learn, live and experience all you can in the truest sense of a liberal arts education!
