Positive Outcomes

Through Earlham's HDSR Program, students should be able to:

  • integrate a wide variety of theoretical perspectives, information from diverse sources, and practical experiences.
  • recognize, respect, and critically evaluate different points of view.
  • analyze the cultural systems in which they participate.
  • develop a respect for diverse value systems and a keen awareness of the role of ethics in their own lives.
  • obtain meaningful, satisfying employment and educational opportunities that aim to have a positive impact on the world.

An HDSR major is excellent preparation for a broad range of careers; its focus on understanding and working effectively with people and organizations is vital for most professions. HDSR graduates have pursued careers and further study in such fields as social work, medicine, law, education, business, non-profit management, human development, nursing, public health, journalism, government and public policy, counseling and clinical psychology, ministry, and library science.
