Majoring in History at Earlham prepares students for a variety of careers. Some recent graduates have made careers in
business, management, education, law and medicine. Other graduates have pursued careers in archival work, museums,
politics, the foreign service, public service and publishing. A recent graduate pursued an advanced degree in law and
became an administrative law judge. Other students have found stimulating careers: one as an urban planner, another as
an independent bookstore owner; one graduate who majored in History has become an AIDS activist. Many students who major
in History at Earlham go on to pursue advanced degrees and subsequent careers in law, medicine, history, library
science, political science and business.
Students of History at Earlham learn the habits of thought and standards of excellence that distinguish good critical
thinking and analyzing. These important skills transfer to any course, any field of study and any career that students
pursue after graduating from Earlham.
