Location -- Cuautla, Morelos:

The official name of Cuautla is H.H. Cuautla (Heroica e Historica Cuautla) to reflect its significance in Mexican history during Independence and the Mexican Revolution. As the second largest city in Morelos, approximately 175,000 inhabitants in the municipality, Cuautla was in the very heart of the revolution. Emiliano Zapata's birthplace, Anenecuilco, is only ten minutes away. The Morelos Travel Website has much more information about the city.

Agricultural Center

Cuautla is the center of a very important agricultural area and serves as a major distribution point. There are three significant markets, one of which is a very large distributor of a variety of goods, primarily agricultural. There is a small industrial park on the outskirts of the city.

Swimming Spas

Relatively abundant water and a beautiful climate have attracted weekend tourists from Mexico City to enjoy the numerous swimming spas (Agua Hedionda, Las Tazas, Los Limones, El Almeal) and nearby Oaxtepec, a vacation center featuring sports fields and many pools. El Rollo's huge water park is 1 hour and Las Estacas provides a unique swimming experience in a spring fed natural setting.

Surrounding Area

Many points of interests are very accessible from Cuautla by frequent and comfortable intercity bus service. Mexico City, Cuernevaca, Puebla, Tepotzlan, and the mountain Popocateptl are all within a 1 1/2 hour driving time. In addition, Cuautla is surrounded by a very diverse group of traditional villages, from Nahuatl speaking Tetelcingo, Alpanocan and Hueyapan to the pottery town of Tlayacapan. Colonial structures abound everywhere. Cooler mountain air and hiking possibilities start only 30 minutes away, and you may travel the route of 16th century convents. Restaurants

There are several good economical family restaurants near Casa Sol, and some very good restaurants downtown, including Las Golondrinas and Misión Cotija. Only twenty minutes away is Hacienda Cocoyoc, with a spectacular setting, good food, horseback riding and a golf course. In the last few years restaurant chains have made their way to Cuautla: VIPS, California, and KFC.

Special Activities:

Our onsite English speaking staff can work with you to plan your visit. You may want to spend the week learning the art of Mexican cooking from a spectacular cook, enjoy a good massage and arama therapy, do yoga, or attend aerobic classes only 3 blocks away. Our history of art teacher could accompany you to some great museums and mural art.
