The
Office of Institutional Research is
responsible for conducting research in order to provide senior administrators
and college committees with data that will support decision-making
and strategic planning. The office coordinates Earlham's participation
in surveys and distributes the results of those surveys. Responses
to inquiries from federal and state government, other colleges and
universities, education associations, and college guides publications
are coordinated by this office also.
Recent
Research Activities
Surveys, surveys, surveys! That was the word for Institutional Research in 2008. Administrative and teaching faculty participated in the HERI faculty survey, the first-years and seniors completed the NSSE survey, alumni from the classes of 2002 and 2003 took the HEDS alumni survey, and alumni from the classes of 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 completed the CRI (Collegiate Results Instrument). Results of these surveys will be posted on this web site as they are available.
Alumni from the Classes of
1957, 1967, 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2002 were interviewed by phone.
The purpose of this research project was three-fold: a)
to identify possible gaps between the expectation and experiences
at Earlham, b) to identify the strengths, weaknesses and changes
that have taken place over time; to examine the influence of
Earlham on alum, and finally c) to examine the issue of academic
integrity. Details and findings.
Earlham chose to participate in an assessment project as
part of a Teagle Foundation grant aimed at
strengthening teaching and learning.
Collegiate Learning Assessment
results were quite favorable.
Again this year we administered the CIRP survey to all students entering Earlham for the first time this fall. The CIRP survey is
sponsored by the Higher Education Research Institute and the Cooperative
Institutional Research Program, and is given to entering college
students across the country. Responses of the Earlham entering class will be posted on this site when available. To see the data for prior year entering classes, click here.
In May,
2007, the Admitted Student Questionnaire (ASQ) was sent to all
students admitted for the class entering Fall 2007. The ASQ is designed
to find out what students really think of our programs, recruitment
literature, financial aid packages, competition, and more. To see a summary of the data for prior years, click here.
In February,
2007, all first-year students and seniors were invited to particpate
in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). Responses from that survey and benchmark scores are posted
here with prior year NSSE data.
