49 full time administrative faculty completed the survey; 26 women and 23 men. The tables below show the Earlham administrative faculty responses compared to responses from the administrative faculty at all private 4-year colleges.

A much higher percentage of Earlham administrative faculty respondents are under the age of 30 compared to administrative faculty at all private 4-year colleges, while the percentage over 60 is much lower.

Overall, the marital status of Earlham's administrative faculty appears to be similar to administrative faculty from other private colleges. Some slight gender differences appear with a higher percentage of Earlham men being married compared to the women, and a higher percentage of women single, divorced or unmarried but living with a partner.

Earlham has a much smaller percentage of administrative faculty with Ph.D.'s compared to other private colleges, and a much higher percentage of Earlham men have a doctorate degree compared to Earlham women.

A small percentage of administrative faculty, all women, reported working toward a Ph.D., however 18.2% of the 33 respondents were working towards a Master's degree and 9.1% were working toward a Bachelor's degree.

Only 14.6% of administrative faculty who chose to respond to the faculty survey have been at Earlham over 23 years, compared to 21.4% at other colleges who have been at their present institution for over 23 years.

With a high percent of Earlham administrative faculty respondents being younger and being more recent hires, the base salary for the Earlham administrative faculty is understandably lower than at other colleges.

Faculty activities at Earlham are remarkably similar to those of faculty at other private 4-year colleges although a higher percentage of administrative faculty from other private 4-year colleges have published op-ed pieces or editorials. Earlham administrative women were much more likely to use their scholarship to address local community needs than the Earlham men, but much less likely to publish editorials.

During the past two years 26.5% of the Earlham administrative faculty have received at least one firm job offer and 44.9% considered leaving Earlham. A greater percentage of responding Earlham administrative women recently considered leaving academe for another job and sought early promotions when compared to Earlham men and all private 4-year institutions.

Compared to other private 4-year college administrative faculty, Earlham has a smaller percentage of administrative faculty who experience close alignment between their work and personal values or mentor new faculty. Gender differences are apparent in some areas, for example, 40% of the Earlham women feel that they have to work harder than their colleagues to be perceived as a legitimate scholar, but only 5% of the men indicated the same.

Once again we see significant gender differences when looking at the administrative faculty's personal goals. For example, a greater percentage of Earlham women feel it is very important or essential to help others who are in difficulty, influence the political structure, develop a meaningful philosophy of life, integrate spirituality into their lives or influence social structure.

With the exception of competency of colleagues, office space and job security, administrative faculty at Earlham are at least somewhat less satisfied with most aspects of their job compared to faculty at other colleges. This is especially true of the Earlham women.

Earlham women noted most of these factors as greater sources of stress than the male administrative faculty with only a few exceptions including committee work, faculty meetings and health of spouse/partner. In most cases the total percentage of faculty feeling stress from these factors was similar to the percentage of faculty from other colleges feeling the same.
