Student Electronic Distribution Service
Mission
The Student Electronic Distribution Service disseminates
important information to members of the student body. With the
goal that students will always read this distribution service’s
messages, it is monitored and closed to general submissions. Only
messages of the utmost importance to current students are distributed
through this distribution service.
Content
Messages appropriate to the Student Electronic
Distribution Service must fall in one the these categories:
- Health and public safety announcements
- Academic Announcements
- Institutional Research initiatives related to students
- Student Government Announcements — Primarily sent by Student Government,
these messages are limited to announcements about All Student Meetings, elections
and referendums.
- Announcements of new weekly issues of Around The Heart (required)
Note: During 2007-08 Earlham developed the Earlham URGENCY Network which utilizes Connect-ED software to send emergency messages during a life or death emergency. Students will be notified by e-mail and cell phone as soon as possible during an emergency via the Connect-ED system. These short messages will provide instruction on what to do to remain safe. Eventually notices about support services and other follow up information would be made available through the Student Electronic Distribution Service.
These items are expressly forbidden from distribution
to the Student Electronic Distribution Service: administrative announcements
(e.g., job searches, interview times),
Student Activities Events (e.g., SAB events, choir concerts,
convocations), and other campus events.
Note: Around The Heart Daily is e-mailed to students through a separate listserv expressly
created for this purpose. Only the Around The Heart editor has permission to use this listserv.
Receiving this daily communication is optional and students may unsubscribe from this listserv.
Distribution
Messages to the Student Electronic Distribution
Service may be sent only by the President’s, Registrar’s,
or Student Development offices or by the Student Executive Council.
The Registrar’s Office enters the names of incoming first-year
students each fall and removes those graduating the previous spring.
The distribution list is actually four lists, one for first-years,
second-years, juniors and seniors.
Submissions
Those wishing to distribute a message on the Student
Electronic Distribution Service need to contact the Student Development
Office, which serves as the Distribution Service’s moderator,
to see if their message can be included on the Distribution Service. |
