Fulfilling Our Mission
True to
the Colleges mission, an Earlham education in the 21st century
prepares young women and men to "let their lives speak," providing
them with strong competencies, deep understanding of their values, and
awareness of how to bring the two together to shape a life that makes
a difference. The Landrum Bolling Center will provide facilities for Earlhams
innovative, value-grounded curriculum, emphasizing five elements: Interdisciplinary Programs, Global Reach, Experiential Learning, Collaborative Projects and Networked Information Resources.
During
his Earlham presidency and in the decades since, Landrum Bolling
has exemplified peacemaking. Under his inspired leadership, faculty
and students developed many interdisciplinary programs grounded
in the Quaker testimonies of peace, justice, equality, simplicity
and consensus decision-making. Dreams will become reality with
the Landrum Bolling Center for Interdisciplinary Studies and Social
Sciences, providing a special home for the learning and teaching
of Earlhams social science departments and interdisciplinary
programs.
