Eli Kelly (1839-1899) was a Friend of West Milton, Miami County, Ohio. The collection consists of a typescript of a reminiscence of Kelly's service with the 8th Ohio Cavalry in Virginia during the Civil War in 1864 and 1865. Gift of Jay Beede, 1987.
Manuscripts of the William and Abigail (Weesner) Kendall family, Quakers of Chester and Wayne County, Ind. Includes copybook, 1874, and diary, 1880-1881, of Margaret Kendall (1858-1934), and copybook, 1858 of Eveline Kendall (1847- ), kept while a student at Friends boarding school.
This collection relates to the family of Jeremiah Griffin (1832-1900), a Quaker schoolteacher of Spiceland, Indiana, and his wife Ann (Kenworthy) Griffin (1828-1896), whose daughter Emma Griffin (1869-1946) married Luther O. Draper (1867-1938). Included is correspondence, genealogical material like marriage certificates and wills, and teaching contracts from the 1840s and 1850s. Leonard S. Kenworthy (1911-1991) was a well-known Quaker educator and author, Earlham class of 1933. The Kenworthy Collection includes correspondence and drafts of writings reflecting Leonard Kenworthy's career.
The collection has two parts. One consists of extracts from the scrapbooks of the family of Mary (Evans) Kenworthy (1825-1901), a Friend of Richmond, Ind. pertaining to historical, Quaker, and Earlham topics. Included are photographs of Marcus Mote, portraits of Jesse Kenworthy (1827-1864) and his father-in-law Thomas Evans (1791-1852), a prominent Friend of Waynesville, Ohio. The second part consists of typescripts of Evans family correspondence, 1821-1894, along with inventory of the original material, now in the Colorado Historical Society. Gift of Richard N. Murray S. Kenworthy (1871-1951) was a well-known Quaker pastor and staff member for the American Friends Service Committee who also served as superintendent of Indiana Yearly Meeting. This collection consists of material gathered by his son Leonard S. Kenworthy for his 1986 biography of Murray S. Kenworthy.
Two notebooks compiled by Luke Smith Mote (1812-1898), Friend and historian of West Branch Meeting, Miami County, Ohio, entitled "Note Book on West Branch" and "Sketch Book of Lineal Descent; or Genealogical Register of the Mote & Mendenhall Families" (1855). Also W. Rufus Kersey, "Traditions and Incidents of Family History," 1916, concerning the Steddom family of Bush River, South Carolina, and Warren County, Ohio. Photocopies; gift of Richard M. Dr. Charles W. Kirk (1836-1893) and his wife Rachel (Hollingsworth) Kirk (1840-1918) were Gurneyite Quaker missionaries among the Shawnee and Wyandotte Indians in what is now Oklahoma. This collection consists of diaries, letterbooks, correspondence, photographs, and other materials, mainly from the 1880s and 1890s, reflecting their work. Gift of Anne Perrott, 1999.
Edith Meredith Koontz (1901- ) was a 1925 Earlham College graduate and Friend of Mooreland, Ind. The Koontz Collection includes correspondence, photographs, miscellaneous documents, and diaries of Koontz and her father, Isaac H. Meredith. Koontz's college scrapbook is in the scrapbook collection.
Nathaniel W. Koontz (born 1860) was a farmer who resided in Henry and Rush counties, Indiana. This collection consists of letters written to Koontz by friends and relatives in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana. Purchase, 2004.
Charles Kress (1917- ) was a labor union leader and activist of Union City, Ind. The Kress Collection consists of two scrapbooks assembled by him. One deals with the United Auto Workers strike against the Richmond International Harvester plant in 1941. The other focuses on attempts to organize a union at the Backstay Corporation in Union City in 1964-1965.
Virgil H. Kruel (b. 1918) was a Conscientious Objector during World War II. The Kruel Collection contains correspondence, pamphlets, forms, and other materials documenting his experiences as a conscientious objector and in Civilian Public Service from 1943 to 1946.
