Each week, students and faculty gather for an informal Mathophiles lunch. Topics of conversation range from current world events to mathematical typesetting to Fermat's Last Theorem.

Weekly Mathophiles seminars give students and faculty alike the chance to talk about mathematical topics of interest, from to voting theory to juggling to slide rules.

Earlham students participate in the Mathematical contest in Modeling, an international competition. In 1999, an Earlham team was one of two in the world (the other was from China) to be rated as "Outstanding" in their solution to a problem of modeling the flow of contaminants in groundwater.

Earlham Mathematics students have participated in numerous off-campus programs, ranging from mathematical programs in Budapest or Aberdeen to studying music in Germany and Austria, or studying Buddhism in India.

Earlham students have carried out creative independent study projects on topics ranging from chaotic systems in biology to game theory in mathematics and economics.
