"My PAGS studies have been a great asset to me these past 2 years as my work in Human Resources often involves conflict-resolution and mediation, even in an Ashram! I have drawn from many books we read, including Getting to Yes and The Different Drum. In light of recent events, my studies on the Jerusalem program have been very helpful. As a former elementary school teacher, I am working on creating a module on "Tolerance" to offer in local high schools with a Middle East History segment to help young people understand the current world crisis. I will be drawing from many of Gandhi's and King's writings as well as from my personal experiences in Israel/Palestine. I hope to begin a conversation of discovery with the kids rather than offer them a pre-fabricated belief system.

My training in PAGS prepared me well to enter the graduate program in Latin American History at the University of Texas at Austin, which was the top-rated program in the country for this field.

" I chose to serve as director of the Border Studies Program on the Mexico-U.S. border because this kind of teaching "in the field" allows me a special chance to help students see the connections between what they are witnessing in the present moment and historical events long ago. If there was ever any question as to the value of a degree in PAGS, I should think that the present historical moment, the open-ended "War on Terrorism," would put such questions to rest, for PAGS students understand the need for multifaceted rather than uni-dimensional responses (i.e., military action alone) to the problems that can give rise to acts of terrorism, and it will be just these kinds of responses that can bring about sustainable peace.

"Be assured that although it is rarely addressed in the mainstream media, PAGS majors are quietly engaging with the world wherever they may be in order to try to facilitate transitions to social justice and stable peace."
