What is the Plowshares Peace Studies Project?
Earlham, Goshen, and Manchester Colleges, together with the Lilly Endowment, have entered into a new level of collaboration and commitment of resources to create one of the strongest, most distinctive undergraduate programs in the U.S. in peace, justice, and reconciliation. This program is based on both intellectual reflection and praxis and has its goal the motivation and preparation of tomorrow's world citizens and leaders. The Plowshares grant provides a catalyst for this effort, bringing together student, faculty, and alumni resources from the 3 colleges, in combination with other partnerships, to achieve this goal.

Why is the project called Plowshares?
The name Plowshares is taken from Isaiah 2:4 (NRSV):
"He shall judge between the nations, and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears in pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."
