Strategic
Planning Committee
Minutes/Notes - Wednesday, April 24, 2002
Teague Library
Present: Rick
Foreman, Wes Miller, Paul Ogren, Sara Penhale, Bob Southard, Monteze Snyder,
Margaret Hampton, Newell Pledger-Shinn, Doug Bennett, Kirsten Bohl
Sara reported that
all white papers are up on the Web page except Community Life and Budget.
Doug reported that
he had met with two representatives at the North Central Association
in Chicago about our accreditation process.
We reviewed a draft
document prepared by several committee members as a basis for what we
might share with the Faculty on May 1.
We agreed we would
prepare the following materials in advance of the Faculty Meeting:
1. A preface,
including a list of topic sentences (things we have learned over the
last several months during the strategic planning process);
2. The value matrix, renamed a "performance/importance matrix"
to summarize material from current and prospective students as well
as from faculty and other focus groups;
3. An "Implications for Action" section that names several
areas we'd like to work on - which distinguishes between items we
can tackle right away without additional resources and those that
will require capital campaign support, and which is less formed than
a commitments/priorities list;
4. A framework for setting fund-raising priorities.
We brainstormed
items for inclusion in the preface (topic sentences regarding what we've
learned over the last several months) and also discussed some items
to be included under "Implications for Action."
Committee members
will work on refining and/or developing text for the Faculty (especially
the preface and the "Implications for Action") between now
and a special meeting on Monday at 4:00 when we will finalize those
materials.
Doug will contact
Tom Kirk about the timing and availability of our materials in advance
of the Faculty Meeting on May 1.
We approved minutes
for April 10 and April 17.
Next Meeting
Next meeting will
be Mon., April 29 at 4:00 p.m. in Teague Library.
