Planning Committee
Minutes/Notes - May 20, 2002

Present: Rick
Foreman, Wes Miller, Paul Ogren, Sara Penhale, Bob Southard, Monteze Snyder,
Margaret Hampton, Doug Bennett, Kirsten Bohl
We discussed draft
minutes from our 5/13 retreat. Doug will make revisions and circulate
for approval.
The Work Ahead
We reviewed our
upcoming work for the summer and fall. In addition to the opening convocation
and two Faculty Meetings, we will arrange meetings with students and
Employee Council in early September to gather feedback on the draft
plan. The Faculty (in September) and the Board (in October) will be
asked to approve the final plan.
We will distribute
paper copies of the draft plan to the on-campus community in late August,
perhaps as a special insert to the Earlham Word. The document will also
be available to students, faculty and staff on the Web site.
We agreed the committee
will need at least two meetings between the opening convocation (September
4) and the date of the second Faculty Meeting discussion (September
25) to compile feedback and incorporate revisions to the draft. The
first will be a dinner meeting on September 4.
June Board Meeting
We made some minor
revisions to the committee's interim progress report. We will post the
report on the Web site for faculty, staff and students. We will send
the report and other materials (including the matrix and white papers)
to the ad hoc strategic planning committee of the Board prior to the
upcoming June 7-8 Board meeting. We'll meet with the ad hoc committee
then, and expect to do additional consultation with them in August.
Next Meeting
Next meeting will
be Friday, August 16 from 3:00 till 5:00 p.m., location TBD.
