II. Jurisdiction of the College
Members
of the College community have responsibilities to federal, state
and local laws, and the College will report any possible felony
to the local police authorities as required by law. Further, Earlham
holds students accountable for their on-campus violations of College
regulations and expectations and for off-campus violations if that
behavior occurs within public or private areas adjacent to the
campus; or occurs in connection with a College-sponsored event
or when students are acting as representatives of the College;
or when a student’s actions directly affect another member
of the Earlham Community.
Earlham will also enforce students’ rights and
freedoms in relation to College policies and subject to the restraint
from abuse
outlined in the Student Conduct Section below. Those rights and
freedoms include, but are not limited to, freedom of expression,
scholarship,
and inquiry in classes and campus activities. This includes the
freedom of student newspapers, publications and productions that
adhere to
standards of responsible journalism. This includes the right to
bring speakers, to form student organizations and to participate
in orderly
demonstrations. The College protects students’ civil rights,
including the right to a reasonable degree of privacy, freedom
from harassment and access to due process. Students have a right
to confidentiality
of their records, to access information and to participate in College
governance.
