Research and Off-Campus Opportunities
Members of the Politics Department have often collaborated with students
on faculty/student research projects with the help
of grants provided by the Ford Foundation and the Knight Foundation.
Recent Ford/Knight projects in Politics have included a survey research
study of attitudes of American midwesterners
toward the former Soviet Union; and the “Troubles” in Northern
Ireland, which involved a field trip to Washington
to speak with government officials, embassy
personnel, and political activists. We also run
the College’s Model United Nations Programs which
involve our students’ participation in regional, national, and international
MUN sessions, and in running on-campus MUN conferences
for area high school students.
In addition to our on-campus course offerings, the Politics Department arranges internships for you with public
agencies and political organizations, ranging from working in the White House Press Office, assisting a local
public defender or prosecutor, or serving on the staffs of members of Congress.
The Politics Department cooperates fully with the International Programs Office in providing a wide array of
off-campus experiences in politics. Our programs in England, Northern Ireland, Jerusalem, France, Germany/Austria, and
Japan contain course work in politics. In addition we offer a May Term course in lobbying in Washington, working
closely with the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL). |
