High Adventure on the High Seas
Surely most Earlham students who sign up for off-campus study expect some measure of excitement during their experience abroad or at-large. But, maybe not quite as much as that greeting sophomore Kara Fitzgerald recently. As a participant this spring in the Sea Education Association’s (SEA) semester at sea program, Fitzgerald assisted in the rescue of more than four dozen Haitian refugees found adrift in the Caribbean Sea 45 miles north of the island of Jamaica. Among the media organizations reporting on the rescue by Kara and her crewmates were NBC News, ABC News, MSNBC, Fox 25 News/Boston and the Associated Press. Related links are available from the SEA Web site.
