Sherri Rose
Visiting Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies

Sherri Rose teaches a variety of courses related to French language and culture. As a scholar, her current research explores trends in the everyday and in affect theory by examining the relations between social anxiety and formal creativity marking French and Belgian literary cultures of the fin-de-siècle.

The vibrancy of the Earlham community and the value placed on a liberal arts education are what first attracted me to teach at Earlham. The collaborate spirit of the faculty and the openness of the students are what have convinced me that I want to stay.

The students I have encountered amaze me by the richness of perspectives they bring to the classroom. They are inquisitive learners and passionate heralds of their world views. In the language classroom this often translates to making insightful connections between text or film and society. I find myself looking forward to the new discoveries we will make together in class.

Earlham students also show compassion for each other. The friendships they have formed and their varied co-curricular activities and experiences bring added warmth to the classroom atmosphere.

Travel! Especially in the context of teaching with study abroad programs. And when I am grounded, I like to let my imagination take flight through cinema and literature. Attending film festivals is one of my hidden passions. I’m also a regular at the Tuesday evening yoga class at Earlham’s Wellness Center.

I love getting out in the sunshine to run. Exploring local shops and farmers’ markets are a few of my favorite everyday adventures. To unwind, I enjoy cooking with my husband, and recreating some of our favorite European culinary discoveries.
