Assistant Professor of Arabic
The Arabic Short Story
Kelly Tuttle’s interests focus thousands of miles and centuries away from Richmond, Ind., on the Medieval Middle East. She has recently been researching literary commentaries produced in Egypt and Syria during the 13th and 14th centuries. Kelly says Arabic literature from that time period — known as the Mamluk Age — has received relatively little scholarly attention. Her aim is to begin to discover the contents of that era’s many commentaries, and what purpose they may have served.
