Hello! I am a Counseling Psychologist with a minor in Sport Psychology. I received my BA in Psychology and English from Kenyon College and my MA and Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. I have been at Earlham since 1994. Since arriving here I’ve had the opportunity to teach such varied courses as Child/Adult Psychopathology, Sport Psychology, Counseling and Psychotherapy, Psychology of Women, and Tests and Measurements (along with many others). I’ve also had the chance to teach a seminar on Alternative Therapy in which we looked at dance, art, and wilderness as modes of therapy. I’ve worked with a number of students on their senior projects on topics ranging from aggression in sport to aromatherapy to gay/lesbian parenting. I’m currently working with several students to help them publish their senior projects. I am also one of the professors in the Human Development and Social Relations department (check out our new webpage). This gives me a chance to teach interdisciplinary classes with philosophy and sociology/anthropology colleagues.

In addition to teaching, I am a psychologist at Richmond State Hospital. Working with clients keeps my skills sharp and gives me opportunities to practice what I teach! When I’m not teaching our counseling, I’m involved with athletics at Earlham and am always willing to leave my office for a soccer, field hockey, or lacrosse match. I also make my share of football and basketball games. Away from Earlham, I spend time with my husband, children (Matt and Sarah), and out cats Omar and Egan. I enjoy, running, reading, and gardening.
