Welcome
Public Affairs communicates the Earlham story — detailing
the many ways in which the College is fulfilling its mission — to
external and internal audiences. Our work supports the goals and
objectives of many parts of the College, chief among them student
recruitment and fundraising. Public Affairs leads the way in establishing
and implementing guidelines for quality in the writing and appearance
of College messages.
Our staff of eight administrators, one administrative assistant
and five or six student assistants interacts with all parts of the
campus, providing a number of important services from pursuing national,
regional and local media placements to ordering business cards and
stationery. You'll find publications, photography, advertising and
graphic design among the services we provide.
We invite you to browse our online
Press Room where
you'll find up-to-date College news and media placements, podcasts
and feeds, historical features, alumni profiles and information about
faculty experts and campus events. Among the more than 350 publications
each year, our office creates ongoing issues of the Earlhamite alumni
magazine and its online counterpart, Earlhamite Extras. In addition,
Public Affairs oversees Around The Heart, the campus' daily online
and weekly print newsletter.
Two Web content administrators are part of the Public Affairs
staff. They assist in envisioning and creating content for the Web
site, working with a wide range of College departments and offices.
They manage the College's approach to electronic communication. Interacting
with the Sports Information Director, we assist with
athletics publications and photography. Finally,
we support Earlham's program of events with promotional messages
and publications each year.
Location
The Public Affairs Office at Earlham College is located in historic
Joseph Moore House at 430 College Avenue. Our mailing address is Campus Drawer
205,
801 National
Road West, Richmond, Indiana 47374-4095.
In renovating the Joseph Moore House, the College strived both to stay
true to the 1890s era of the house and to meet the 21st century communication
needs of the Public Affairs Office. Constructed during a building boom
in prosperous Richmond between 1892 and 1894, the Joseph Moore House was
based on a simple, yet substantial design planned by then President Joseph
Moore and architect Thomas Harrison. An example of modified Italianate
design, the house features a delicate front porch, hipped roof, tall shuttered
windows and a recessed entrance into a wide hallway where an original light
fixture was refurbished. The house's many handsome features include
functional pocket doors, transoms, marble fireplaces, a servants' stairwell
at the rear of the house and a refurbished original wall unit in one of
the offices.
