Roeper, Associate Vice President for Public Affairs
Karen
manages overall public relations efforts at Earlham
to increase awareness and understanding of the College.
Responsibilities include:
•
Developing strategies for effective communication
with external and internal constituencies;
•
Organizing and sustaining contacts with media to
ensure support for general visibility to enhance
student recruitment, institutional advancement, community
relations and campus programming;
•
Directing the development and production of print
and electronic publications and internal communications;
•
Providing in-house public relations counsel to the
Admissions and Institutional Advancement offices,
academic departments and other administrative departments;
and
•
Establishing graphic standards and ensuring quality
control for all print materials and Internet communications.

Blackmon,
Director of Media Relations
Mark
represents the College in most of its interaction
with the press, from local to regional and national
media. The responsibilities include:
•
Responding to media inquiries concerning access to
Earlham's distinguished faculty;
•
Providing information related to the College's
many outstanding academic programs, which place Earlham
among the nation's best liberal arts colleges;
•
Working with the media on presenting the Earlham
perspective on a variety of issues involving access
to higher education, international education, intercollegiate
athletics, student life, and Quaker values and tradition.
•
Maximizing the College's integration of new media
strategies to enhance Earlham's visibility.

Denise
Purcell, Public Affairs Assistant
Denise assists with communications on and off campus.
Her responsibilities include:
• Supporting the College's goals for local, regional and national
media placements, preparing selected feature stories;
•
Supporting the calendar of College events by organizing media coverage and preparing publications;
•
Pursuing opportunities for hometown coverage through contacts with Earlham students, teaching faculty and administrators;
•
Conducting interviews with students who have achieved
success in the classroom and in extracurricular activities; and
•
Overseeing and implementing database record-keeping
and retrieval procedures that support the office's
media relations work.

Publications
Jonathan Graham, Earlhamite
Editor
Jonathan
communicates the news of Earlham College to a broad audience
of alumni, donors and friends through the print version of
the Earlhamite, as well as on the Web. His primary duties include:
•
Working with members of the Institutional Advancement Office,
Public Affairs Office and Publications Coordinating Committee
to identify potential story ideas, focusing on our alumni's
engagement with the world;
• Interviewing alumni, faculty and current students;
• Collaborating with other staff, outside vendors, freelancers and student
workers on such tasks as writing, photography, alumni notes editing, proofreading,
graphic design and printing;
• Editing, writing and supervising the production of alumni news and feature
stories
for print and online publication; and
• Documenting the policies and processes of creating the Earlhamite.

Julia
Jensen, Graphic Designer
Julia's
primary responsibility is to produce College publications
that reinforce Earlham's graphic standards.
Her responsibilities include:
•
Developing in-house template documents and assisting
Public Affairs and other staff in producing publications
which meet the College's graphic design standards;
•
Consulting with the Publications Manager to assess
goals and audiences for publications and determine
graphic design needs;
•
Assisting in developing and maintaining the College's
graphic design standards;
•
Creating College advertisements to support student
recruitment and community relations; and
•
Interacting with regional designers, printers,
and other vendors to ensure a smooth work flow
of print projects.

Gayle
Bryant, Publications Manager
Gayle
coordinates the production of all publications produced
by the Public Affairs Office. Her responsibilities
include:
•
Receiving projects from campus office representatives
and assisting in designing and planning print projects
with the Graphic Designer to meet departmental and
institutional needs;
•
Scheduling and tracking the production process of
Earlham publications;
•
Representing Earlham College with design, print and
advertising vendors;
•
Coordinating business card and stationery needs for
the College;
•
Compiling and creating the annual Faculty/Staff Directory;
and
•
Organizing the photographic needs of the campus,
including the filing and indexing of all digital
photos.

Polly Wilde, Around The Heart Editor
Polly manages the College's official newsletter. Interacting with many campus offices, she compiles, edits and distributes the Around The Heart newsletter in e-mail, blog and printed forms. She is available on a part-time basis.

Rivard,
Administrative Assistant
Emily
provides secretarial support for the Public Affairs
staff. Her responsibilities include:
• Answering phones and greeting guests to the Public
Affairs Office, providing directions, information
or materials;
• Receiving deliveries of publications and related
record-keeping;
• Assisting in arrangements with campus offices for
pick-up of publication deliveries;
• Assisting with record keeping associated with the
Public Affairs budget; and
• General office duties including proofreading and
making arrangements for numerous meetings, mailings,
in-house printing and the work of student assistants.
