Local Carpenters' Union
Protests Along Route 40
Protesters greet motorists near the entrance to Earlham College
For Immediate Release:
August 9, 2007
RICHMOND, Ind. — A few protesters
can be found this morning along Route 40 in front of Earlham College.
They represent the local carpenters' union, the Indiana/Kentucky
Regional Council of Carpenters. They are protesting Crane Construction,
Inc., a local company, for its use of non-union employees.
It is Earlham's practice to be open to both
union and non-union companies and to use local firms. The College
hired Crane, the lowest and best bidder, to conduct a renovation
of Barrett Residence Hall.
The protesters are within their legal rights to
be located where they are, within the National Road right-of-way.
