Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards
For Immediate Release:
Dec. 22, 2008
Editor Jonathan Graham reviews a recent issue of
the Earlhamite, the College's award-winning alumni magazine.
RICHMOND, Ind. — The work of the Earlham College Public Affairs staff was honored with
three awards at the 2008 Pride of CASE V Awards ceremony in Chicago last
week. The awards, given by the Council for the Advancement and Support
of Education, District V, honor institutions and individuals from six
states for outstanding achievement in the concept and execution of advancement
programs and communications.
"I am blessed with bosses who trust me to make good decisions and
fantastic colleagues in the Public Affairs Office who respond to drafts
and help me improve my work," says Jonathan Graham, publications
editor and editor of the Earlhamite magazine, who received a
coveted Gold Award for Excellence in Research/Scientific/Medical Writing
for the recent Earlhamite focusing on Earlham's contributions
to the medical field.
Graham also received a Bronze Award for feature writing for the series
of articles on libraries in the Earlhamite.
"The fact of the matter is," he says, "I
had some great stories to tell, both for the medical issue and the library
issue. Like most Earlham graduates I meet, these people were passionate,
articulate and a little quirky. For a feature writer, that's gold."
"I was very pleased that Jonathan and the Earlhamite were
singled out for this recognition by our professional organization," says
Karen Roeper, associate vice president for public affairs. The Earlhamite is
the oldest alumni magazine in continuous publication in the U.S.
"This is a special honor," Roeper continues, "but
every issue of the Earlhamite showcases Jonathan's expertise
at crafting compelling articles on a wealth of subjects for our alumni
readers. Way to go, Jonathan!"
While Roeper doles out kudos, she also deserves some herself, having
received the Silver Teresa DuBois Exline Award for Best Practices in Communications
and Marketing for the College's interactive virtual tour.
The tour, developed in association with Columbus, Ohio-based 361 Studios,
has become one of the most visited portions of the Earlham Web site since
its launch in December, 2007.
"This is a wonderful recognition from CASE," says Roeper. "More
than a year and a half of work went into crafting and refining
our virtual tour project, which has really attracted significant prospective
student traffic. We take a great deal of satisfaction in knowing that
the site has been judged so highly by our peers from a 'best practices
point-of-view'."
The 2008 awards competition yielded nearly 500 entries in 49 categories.
Professionals from outside of CASE District V served as judges for the
competition.
Graham represented the College at the awards ceremony.
