Media Relations
Contact between the news media and the College
is coordinated through the Public Affairs Office. Via news releases,
Web postings, special media alerts and other efforts the office
informs newspaper, magazine and broadcast reporters and editors
about a variety of newsworthy topics. These may include the appearance
of distinguished speakers on campus, the activities involved in
or results of faculty/student collaborative research, other academic
and athletic accomplishments of students and faculty, campus views
on current events or trends, performing arts events and more.
The Public Affairs Office also conducts an extensive
operation dedicated to promoting the successes of Earlham students
in their
respective home areas. Upwards of 6,000 hometown news releases
may be issued in any academic year, documenting student participation
and/or achievement in academic research, competitive scholarship
or fellowship programs, theatrical or musical performance, varsity
athletics, community and volunteer service programs and many other
activities.
Denise
Purcell assists the College with off-campus media communications, including
sending news of the Earlham student accomplishments to hometown newspapers.
Incoming students are asked to designate their hometown
newspapers for use by Public Affairs. For more information about
the release
of student information, visit Students
and the Media.
The office also answers many press inquiries
and other outside requests for information about the College and
campus
community, and maintains a record of Earlham exposures
in the media.
The latest press placements and headline news
from campus, as well as press placements (“EC in the
News”),
are posted regularly at the College’s electronic pressroom.
